According to reports, only nine new cases of polio have been reported around the world so far this year. This is a dramatic decrease compared to 2015, which saw 74 reported cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a><\/strong>. Officials believe that polio is on track to be completely eradicated soon thanks to a worldwide push to ensure that every child in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the last two countries in the world with known wild (not vaccine-induced) cases of polio, receives the life-saving vaccine. One tactic that officials have been using to \u201ckeep the pressure up\u201d is introducing a new formulation (bivalent or bOPV) of the polio vaccine, which health officials in 155 countries will be required to use starting April 17. This will be the largest vaccine rollout in history, according to officials.<\/p>\n
