The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation<\/a><\/strong> has been fighting to eradicate polio for years, and it looks like the battle is coming close to an end. World\u00a0health authorities predict that as soon as the end of this year or early 2017 the world will be polio free. The only remaining countries with known cases are Afghanistan and Pakistan. This achievement is a testament to all of the doctors, nurses, aid workers, volunteers, and others who have dedicated their time to helping stop the debilitating disease in its tracks. And one organization that has been leading the charge is the Gates Foundation, says Joe Cerrell, the foundation\u2019s managing director of global policy and advocacy. Thanks to large donations and donation matches, along with fundraisers and immunization drives, the foundation has successfully raised awareness to help eradicate polio. \u201cWe can turn $20 into $100 by leveraging up the impact of donations,” he says.<\/p>\n
