In an article in the February issue of National Geographic<\/em> entitled, \u201cCell Coverage: Reaching Pakistan\u2019s Children with the Polio Vaccine,\u201d<\/a><\/strong> author Aziz Memon covered Rotary International\u2019s work to switch from paper recordkeeping to digital in the battle against polio in Pakistan. The team in charge of this massive undertaking is primarily comprised of women, so as a follow up to the story, Memon shared images of some of the healthcare workers on the front lines. The images show the women, cell phones in hand, using SMS (text messaging) to relay key pieces of data, including healthcare and immunization records, between one another. The cell phones also give the workers a sense of security, and makes communication easier, especially in the more dangerous areas of the country where they can call for help at the push of a button.<\/p>\n
