From April 17 through May 1, healthcare workers and government officials are working with 155 countries to make the switch from the trivalent OPV to the bivalent OPV version of the life-saving vaccine, making this the largest vaccine rollout in history. According to his article, over the past 30 years polio cases have been reduced by 99.9 percent, and the only nations where wild polio is still evident are Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, Orenstein feels strongly that this unified global push could end polio for good.
