Muhammadu Buhari, president of Nigeria, lauded his country for being polio free for the past two years. In a series of tweets sent out on Twitter earlier this week, President Buhari said that, in 2015, the African nation was removed from the list of countries where polio was endemic, and he outlined the next steps for the country to take in order to keep its current polio-free status, which includes receiving recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the WHO, it will acknowledge this milestone in July 2017. “We’re committed to making the certification a reality, by supporting routine immunization, and revitalizing our primary health care system,” he said.
